How many worms do I need to start my worm bin?
Q. I have a 12 gal rubbermaid container and about thirty worms. I keep reading that you need a POUND! Is this true or do I have enough?
Asked by colleen p - Tue Jun 12 17:27:21 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I've got the same problem. We started the worm bin a couple of months ago and just put some worms from the yard in there. I couldn't bring myself to buy worms! I think that it is a matter of having a critical mass of worms to multiply the population. We might eventually get a large population of worms, but it's going to take a long time. It's also a matter of having the worms, Eisenia fetida or Red Wigglers, that everyone suggests you have. I think we'll have to break down and buy some, but I don't know if we'll have to wait for cooler weather for them to be shipped to us. How can I tell the difference between heart worms and round worms?
Q. My cats have worms and I bought medicine for them, it said it's for round worms. Is it the same as heart worms? How can I tell which worms my cats even have? PLEASE don't say to go to the vet. I WOULDN'T be here asking if I had the money to ask a vet. Basically, it's little white things that come out the cats anus. I found out yesterday that my pregnant cat has this affliction as well. She should be giving birth in 1-2 weeks. Is it all right to give her the medicine as well?
Asked by Andrea C - Sat Jul 14 15:43:26 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Heartworms are in their heart. If you've seen worms in the stool then this is not heartworms, they don't show up in the stool. The only way to test for heartworms is a blood test. It could be whipworms, tapeworms or hookworms though and to tell the difference you'd have to go to the vet. If you can't afford a vet to get your cat vaccinated and spayed and medicated then you should not have your cat. I suggest taking her to the nearest animal shelter.

How do I get rid of little worms in my lemon tree leaves?
Q. I have a lemon tree tht has little 1/4inch worms that tunnel through the leaves. The leaves start off with littl serpentine lines throughout them then they wrinkle up. The worms spread pretty fast. I cut off every single leaf from the tree and sprayed the bark with insecticide. The leaves came back and the worms came back. I scanned the leaf to show the animal. Go to picasaweb.google.com and search lemon tree leaf worm.

A. Citrus leafminers are a relatively new pest of citrus. There is no practical way for a home owner to control them. They will not affect the new growth in the spring, but do alot of damage later in the year as populations increase. If it is a young tree you can drench the soil with an insecticide containing imidacloprid. You can buy this in Home depot or Lowes, made by Bayer. You will have to look at the active ingredients on the label.

How long until worms pass out of puppy who was dewormed?
Q. My Puppy is so uncomfortable before and after he poops, and scratches and drags his bum everyhwere. Are worms suppose to cause discomfort too??? Still No worms, and I have definitely been looking!
Asked by alypritchert - Sun Apr 6 02:24:40 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It can take a few days before you start seeing worms. However, it can take up to 2 weeks to fully deworm a dog. (The entire lifecyle: Egg, larvae, worm have to be interrupted, killed, and passed.) A friend of mine got worms when she was little. She said they're itchy and you can feel them squirming around. o.o;

How do you get rid of the tiny worms on the fruit of a red mulberry tree?
Q. There are tiny worms on the fruit, but they are not bag worms. We would like to use the fruit, but need to get rid of the worms first! I know silk worms live on mulberry trees, but I thought they ate the leaves, not the fruit, and none of the leaves look as though they've been chewed on. Any suggestions?

How do I kill worms without killing the plant?
Q. I have a corn plant that is very beautiful but I noticed that it had some kind of dark brown worms infested in it. I want to kill the worms because if I don't eventually I know that it will kill my plant. How do I get rid of them without repotting as that will kill the plant too.
Asked by smiley - Fri May 18 13:00:29 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Those are not worms. They are caterpillars and if they are corn earworms then those are hard to destroy. The tedious method is three days after the silks appear you place 20 drops of mineral oil at the base of each ears silks, repeat every three days. If not earworm then you might try bacillus thurengensis (sp?). This is a bacteria that kills caterpillars and is harmless to anything else.

How do worms get transferred into humans?
Q. I know they pass through the colon. Should I go to the doctor, because I think my puppy has worms, and she has licked my face, and a couple times even licked my lips before I could back away. HELP!
Asked by cul8r_32 - Sat Jun 3 08:45:45 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Usually humans get worms by eating uncooked foods like pork. You cannot get them from the love licks of a puppy! So, cheer up, and if you did you could take some medicine and they would die. We all have some types of disgusting organisms living in all of us. So don't worry...be happy!

What are these tiny brown worms found under clothing on floor?
Q. I have had a pile of clothing on my bedroom floor for a few months now and today I finally started going through them. First I found what looked like a shell/skin left from tiny brown worms, and then I actually found one crawling on a small hand towel. The clothes (and towel) were all clean. What kind of worm is this and how do I make sure there are no more? Will regular bug spray work?

A. They could be a couple of things. 1. MAGGOTS 2. LARVAE 3. a bug in early stages i suggest you wash you towels and clothes in hot water and heavy duty cleaner because those things could lay eggs. then mop with hot water and bleach the then find a spray for pest and spray it.

How can I prevent worms from getting into my apples?
Q. The worms go right to the seed. Please give me a few suggestions on how I can save my apples.
Asked by J - Sun May 4 17:04:36 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Go to the store and get some apple tree spray. It's the only way I know of. There might be "greener" ways, but none that I know. Just because you are spraying on "chemicals" doesn't mean its bad. Every substance in the universe is a chemical including water. Just spray the tree and wash the apples and you will have free apples to last you all year.

Where can I find pictures of cats worms?
Q. This morning I found worms that one of my rescued cats had thrown up. I'm trying to identify it before calling the vet. Does anyone know of a good web site with pictures of cat worms?
Asked by pat j - Mon Nov 20 12:38:52 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can also call your vet and just describe the worm to them. Basically if it looks like spaghetti it is a roundworm, and if it looks like rice or a sesame seed it is a tapeworm.

A. I have recently completed a parasitology class. First of all, how do you know you have an infestation with all these parasites? Some of the parasites you have mentioned are basically impossible to get rid of due to the fact that their contracted via the skin from the ground. The tapeworm generally resides in the human gut which habitates there from eating contaminated beef or something of that nature. Pinworms can be detected by the scotch tape method. To be honest I could go on and on about this subject but I cannot instruct you step by step due to the availability of characters I have to work with. I strongly suggest you find a really good doctor or better yet parasitologist to help you with this problem. I'm sorry, I have never heard… [cont.]

What are the symtoms of worms in a cat ?
Q. My cat is vomiting at least once a week sometimes two. A friend told me that could it be worms. Is she right? Thank you.
Asked by lisbonlilia - Fri Sep 21 19:46:58 2007 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is most likely some kind of metabolic disease process. The symptom of vomiting can be a symptom of any number of problems. A cat should be dewormed when it is a kitten at least twice. That is according to the CDC. As an adult a cat should have a fecal stool test at least once yearly to test for worms. Just a random deworming is un-necessary if the test results are negative for internal parasites. It is most likely you pet has an intestinal disorder, but it in important to know what your cat vomits. If it is undigested food, it is not considered vomiting, that is regurgitation. Caused by eating to fast. My cat does this and I changed his diet to Hills T/D diet. They have to chew this food, it comes in large kibble and therefore… [cont.]

How to attract worms to your yard?
Q. I'm trying to dig up dirt to find worms for a project, but i only found one small baby worm! Where did they all go? Have they dug to deep for me to dig? I used a watering can and wet the water for the worms to rise to the surface but only found some beetles.
Asked by Lola Bunny - Sun Oct 11 14:07:16 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are two things you can do. First stop using chemicals on your yard and garden. Secondly you will want to start using products like Neptune's Harvest Fish and Seaweed that add organic matter to your soil. It will take a couple of years to build up the worm population. If you want to get some fast. Put down a 2x6 (any length you want) on top of the soil. I week later turn it over and you will have some worms.
