Primatology is the study of primates. It is a diverse discipline and primatologists can be found in departments of biology, anthropology, psychology and many others. It is a branch of physical anthropology, which, in itself, studies the genus Homo, especially Homo sapiens. The fields cross over in the study of the hominids, which include all ape-like ancestors of man and the other great apes (for a list of common ancestors with other living species see The Ancestor's Tale). Modern primatology is an extremely diverse science. It ranges from anatomical studies of primate ancestors and field studies of primates in their natural habitat, to experiments in animal psychology and ape language. It has cast an immense amount of light on basic human behaviors and ancient ancestry of these behaviors. From Wikipedia under the

However one of the top in my mind is SUNY @ Stoney Brook. They have one of the most comprehensive programs that I have seen. Answered by Jimmy G. - Tue Jan 22 13:35:11 2008 Could I do work in archeology with a Bachelor's in anthropology? Q. I would love to be an archaeologist, but frankly, I am interested in many different areas of anthropology (I also like primatology, biological anthropology and cultural anthropology). Also, my university doesn't offer a major or minor in the field of archeology. So I'm basically asking this: could I do any archaeological digs with a BA in anthropology? Asked by stardust - Sun Jan 4 21:00:39 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. OF COURSE! You might want to start out doing a field school where you can get hands-on experience and learn the basics. If you want to do work (and get paid) you can get a job with a CRM firm (cultural resource management). Shovelbums.org has a pretty good list of field schools and CRM jobs. Also, you can email your state archaeologist and he/she can refer you to CRM firms in the area. Answered by stifler92182 - Sun Jan 4 21:07:17 2009 I'm really interested in anthropology?
Q. Physical anthropology. I'm also interested in primatology, and ancient civilizations like Egypt. Any ideas on what career would be good for me? And what courses should I take in college? Thanks so much! Asked by Beautful.Stranger.Of.Mine - Mon Aug 3 22:13:57 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Human paleontology would be a good path for you. You could work for a museum of natural history. Take the basic Bio anthro, Primatology, and Archy classes and maybe you'll lean more in one direction. Even if you don't, anthropology is what they call a "holistic" field. Take as many anthro classes as you can.
