They are a prominent modern member of the subfamily Bovinae, are the most widespread species of the genus Bos, and are most commonly classified collectively as Bos primigenius. Cattle are raised as livestock for meat (beef and veal), as dairy animals for milk and other dairy products, and as draft animals (pulling carts, plows and the like). Other products include leather and dung for manure or fuel. In some countries, such as India, cattle are sacred. It is estimated that there are 1.3 billion cattle in the world today. I would recommend getting an Ivermectin solution from your vet, or having the vet administer it themselves. You *can* use cattle/sheep/etc. Ivermectin on gerbils, but you have to dilute it the right way and measure out exact doses based on the individual gerbil's weight. However, even if you decide to use the cattle Ivermectin, you need to see the vet first, so they can identify the type of mite. Ivermectin is *not* effective against all types of mites! If it turns out you have a type of mite that does not respond to Ivermectin, you can put a *very* tiny drop of Frontline on the back of each gerbil's neck.
