A fish is any aquatic vertebrate animal that is typically ectothermic (or cold-blooded), covered with scales, and equipped with two sets of paired fins and several unpaired fins. Fish are abundant in the sea and in fresh water, with species being known from mountain streams (e.g., char and gudgeon) as well as in the deepest depths of the ocean (e.g., gulpers and anglerfish).

Food prepared from fish is also called fish, and it is an important food source for humans. They are harvested either from wild fisheries (see fishing) or farmed in much the same way as cattle or chickens (see aquaculture). They are also exploited by recreational fishers and fishkeepers, and are exhibited in public aquaria. Fish have had a role in many cultures through the ages, ranging from deities and religious symbols to the subjects of books and popular movies.

What is a fish that can withstand a variety of temperatures?
Q. Hi, I'm thinking of buying a fish, but I'm not sure exactly what fish I want to buy. I had two guppies but they both died, so I was wondering if there are any fish that can withstand a wide variety of temperatures (besides beta fish). My mom won't get me a water heater, so I need a fish that can withstand temperatures somewhere from the high-sixties to mid-eighties. Thank you!

A. The fish I most commonly recommend for aquariums without a heater are White Clouds. They're beautiful cold water fish that come from mountain streams in China. They love room temperature and can handle a variety of temps though mid eighties is a little too high for them. If your home really gets this hot in the summer then put them in a cooler area like the floor or basement for the time it's that hot. The best fish to withstand a range of temperatures is the Desert Pup fish. It can go from near freezing to above 100 degrees farenheight during the day. Even though this was your question I think the explaination above is more helpful.

What kind of fish would go best in a 29 gallon tank?
Q. I just bought a 29 gl fish tank kit, and I want to get fish but I don't know what kind. Im looking for bright colored fish so that my tank will be colorful. Im also looking for fish that live for quite a while (I know, it probably depends on how well I take care of them). And I don't want anything that will get huge, maybe like 5 inches at the most. Ive had batas before but now I want a big tank. Thanks!

A. make a community tank!! they're great get some guppy, molly, sword fish, endlers, and platy small quantities of each because they breed fast. your aquarium will look colorful alive and very very cool. get fake or real bright colored or natural colored plants with maybe some decor like a wrecked ship or a Mermaid statue. and for the benefit of the fish get a water tester for ammonia, hardness,pH,nitra te and nitrite and research before you buy any fish so you and your pet can have a good experience! hope this helps!

What kind of fish could i breed in a 5 gallon tank?
Q. I just got a 5 gallon tank and i want to get 2 fish that are not boring and that will cooperate with other fish. I also want a fish that i could breed.Again i don't want boring fish. Im thinking about dwarf gourami. Any other suggestions? Im sorry but i just checked and its really 8 gallons. Its still small but will that change your answers

A. In a tank that small, the only things you would get to breed is live bearers like guppies and platys. If you do plan to breed fish in such a tiny tank, you will have to have another tank already set up (preferably much bigger than 5 gal) and cycled, ready for new fish. That way you will have somewhere to put the babies (or the parents if the small tank is going to be for the babies only). The adult fish will eat the babies if not separated. If you absolutely have to have larger fish, such as gourami, please consider starting with at least a 10 to 20 gal tank. Otherwise you will quickly over-stock the tank and you will lose fish due to water quality.
