Animal science is described as "studying the biology of animals that are under the control of mankind". Historically, the animals studied were farm animals, but courses available now look at a far broader area to include companion animals, for example dogs, cats, horses and captive animals. At the University of Reading, for example, the study of animal science is concerned with the scientific understanding of how animals work: from the physiology and biochemistry of tissues and major organ systems down to the structure and function of biomolecules and cells; particular emphasis is given to the study of growth, reproduction, nutrition and lactation of farm and companion animals and how these processes may be optimised to improve animal productivity, health and welfare. Courses in support areas, such as genetics, soils, agricultural economics and marketing, legal aspects and the environment also are offered. Degrees in Animal Science are offered at a number of Universities. Keith Related linksFrom Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Animal Science" Can anyone help me narrow down a topic in animal science to write a Four Page Essay on? Q. Can anyone help me narrow down a topic in animal science to write a Four Page Essay on? I just need some ideas or topics that lie in the "animal science" category. Thanks Much! Asked by Em - Thu Dec 4 15:00:58 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. You need to narrow down the topic by yourself more before we can help you. You can do a lot better than "animal science" because that is WAY too large a topic! Do you have any idea how many types of animals there are? Thousands!! What types of animals interest you? Large animals? Small animals? Wild animals? Living or extinct? Living on land, in trees, or in the water? Vertebrates or invertebrates? Warm-blooded or cold-blooded? The list goes on and on and on. You will always be more motivated to work on a paper about something that interests YOU. What I find interesting you might not, and vice versa. So pick one you genuinely want to know more about - if nothing comes to mind, choose your pet. Answered by scott - Sun Mar 2 11:11:46 2008 What are the major differences between me having a masters in Zoology, and a masters in Animal Science?
Q. My main goal is to work at a place like a zoo, or a wildlife preservation center (ironically polar opposites to some ha), and currently i have a job as a recptionist at an animal hospital. I'd love to work as a veterinary tech, or maybe if i lose my squeamishness, a veterinarian, at a place with large animals (more than dogs cats and horses) Thanks! :) Asked by Roo - Mon Jul 27 11:37:30 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Animal Science is more for those that want to work on a farm. Some undergraduates have majored in Veterinary and Animal Science and gone on to Vet school. Zoology is the branch of biology that focuses on the structure, function, behavior, and evolution of animals.
