Animal science is described as "studying the biology of animals that are under the control of mankind". Historically, the animals studied were farm animals, including livestock and horses, but courses available now look at a far broader area to include companion animals, for example dogs, cats and exotic species. At the University of Reading, for example, the study of animal science is concerned with the scientific understanding of how animals work: from the physiology and biochemistry of tissues and major organ systems down to the structure and function of biomolecules and cells; particular emphasis is given to the study of animal growth[1], reproduction, nutrition and lactation of farm and companion animals and how these processes may be optimised to improve animal productivity, health and welfare. Courses in support areas, such as genetics, soils, agricultural economics and marketing, legal aspects and the environment also are offered. Degrees in Animal Science are offered at a number of universities. From Wikipedia under the

Even if they won't, it'll improve your chances of getting into your dream-school and prepare you to do well in college. My college only accepted AP courses so I took a few of those in high school: one in general biology, one in chemistry and one in calculus. Pretty much every biology undergraduate program will require all of those courses, as well as possibly physics. Other courses your high school might offer are marine biology, marine science, zoology and geology, all of which would be good. Taking these courses in high school will make it easier for you to finish your double-major on time. Answered by Ahi Tun - Sun Jun 14 17:54:49 2009 What should I pursue in college! Q. I am currently attending Berry College to pursue my animal science degree. What I really want to do is become a famous racehorse breeder or show breeder but I definitely don't think I could be a veterinarian. I don't know what to do because I don't want to be in the science field but I want to make a lot of money. I've thought about farriering and vet techinicians and animal cruelty investigators, I just don't know where to go after I graduate even though I'm only a freshman. Can anyone help?!
