A. It varies quite widely. In the past 10 years they've estimated it as many as 26,000. It's been as low as 16-18,000 within that period as well. Currently it's holding pretty steady at 20,000. The American Cetacean Society has been conducting a gray whale census & behavior study for over 20 years.
