A. if I remember correctly, the battery is on the drivers side and the way to get to it is to turn your steering wheel all the way to the left, then you will see an access panel in the fender well, remove battery strap and replace battery

How to remove the alternator in a 2002 Pontiac Montana?
Q. Hi, This question is for someone who has actually replaced the alternator in a Pontiac Montana (hopefully 2002). I have replaced alternators on other cars, but the space on this seems too tight to pull the alternator out. What has to be removed to remove / replace the alternator? It looks like maybe some of the windshield wiper control arms, but even that doesn't look like it will open up enough space. This van does not have a cover inside the van to remove for engine access.
Asked by JoeCool - Thu Jan 3 11:00:10 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Remove the front engine torque mounts (dog bones). Put the car into neutral and attach a strap to the engine lift hook and the other end around the radiator support bar. Pull on the strap so that the engine moves toward the front of the car until you have enough room to remove the alternator and then secure this position.

Q. I know that they are reporting that the DJIA dipping below 7449 means it is the lowest it has been since 2002. How low did it get in 2002? I know that the next low mark before 2002 was 1998, how low was that?

How much does a new transmission for a 2002 Honda civic cost, with installation?
Q. I have a 2002 honda civic with a manual transmission, I have a real strong feeling that the transmission is about to go. How much do you think a new one is going to cost with installation?

A. The cost varies depending on which auto shop your getting serviced at. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're located in New Jersey? In that case a good place to start would be: But, make sure the cost involved isn't anything larger than the sum of what your car is worth. Good Luck!

How much will it cost to fix a 2002 Grand-Am with broken timing chain?
Q. The timing chain went on my 2002 Grand Am yesterday. There's no compression in the engine so it's safe to say the valves are screwed too. I still have a $6000 loan on the car, so I need to repair it, but can anyone tell me how much that's likely to cost? I need to know if the car is worth saving. Many thanks.
Asked by drumonkey08 - Wed Dec 19 15:42:05 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You might have gotten luck and not all of the valves are bent/broken... I lost the belt on mine once and it only messed up one or two valves... it was under a grand to fix, but I would guess the more valves the higher the cost!

How do you remove the rear subwoofer in a 2002 ford explorer sport?
Q. The subwoofer in the back of my 2002 ford explorer sport broke and I cannot get it out of the hole it is in. I removed all of the screws and tried prying it out with a hammer and still cannot get it out. Any ideas on how to remove it? Does it require any factory tools to get it out?
Asked by Rachael - Tue Jul 28 08:39:27 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You're missing one screw: it goes through the back of the subwoofer enclosure and into the center of the sub's back plate. To remove the sub, you need to take off the entire rear side panel and pull the enclosure out so you can get to the back. Stupid design, eh?

Asked by baby_jasmine - Wed Dec 26 16:24:03 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi There Baby, Wine Spectator gave the 2002 Grgich Hills Merlot 82 points and says that it's a "drink now". This typically means that the wine will not hold up in the cellar and should be consumed within a year after marketing. If it were mine, I'd enjoy it over a nice pasta dinner in the next few months. : )

How do I disconnect hazard warning flasher on a 2002 olds alero?
Q. I have a 2002 olds alero and I need to replace the hazard warning flasher located insider the dash. I can easily remove the dash trim and reach the flasher, but I cant get it disconnected. Is there a way I can remove it without doing damage. Or should I just take it to dealer and let them do it. If so, how much do you think it will cost to fix?
Asked by ladyboxer - Tue Jan 15 19:26:54 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Look for any kind of plug retainer on the one in the car. Also look for a catch on the replacement. That said, I have never run across one that had a retainer. Usually its just a tight fit. Very gently, put the tip of a screw driver or butter knife between the the connector and the flasher and pry. Here comes the obligatory disclaimer. The potential, no matter how small exists that you may inadvertantly short out the circuit, by grounding out what you're prying with.

A. Front pads plus new rotors: $200 at Pep Boys or an independent shop (not a dealer's price). However, if your front rotors require a special puller to remove, it could cost you more.

A. 150k is what the manual says... they don't have timing belts, they have gears. if it starts up good and run well why bother it. if it's not broken, don't try and fix it.

A. If you have never done one before, take it to a pro. Park brake cable needs to be re-routed, Brake lines lengthened if 4X4 floor shift lever needs extension. Will need stronger alternator to power electric fans because fan shroud will no longer fit the engine compartment, You may need different top radiator hose because of interference by idler pulley the wiring harness will stretch far enough with 3' and do not forget the bumper adapters for proper look. The bed is the easy part

A. No problem 2001 to 2004 mufflers will interchange 4 cyl to 4 cyl and 6 cyl to 6 cyl. I would think it is time for something better. Superflow muffler and tail pipe made up at a good muffler shop. Might be able to get 2 miles more to a gallon.

How can I restore fuel efficiency to my 2002 Honda Accord?
Q. I have a 2002 Honda Accord, 2.3 litre. As per specification, it should run about 100 km/10 litres in city and 100 km/7.2 litres on highway. But it's giving me an average mileage of 100km/10 litres where I drive most on highways. What are the ways to restore efficiency to my 2002 Accord?
Asked by Mr Dreamline - Thu Nov 8 02:51:51 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Your car does not need premium gas so do not run it. It is a waste of your money and of oil refineries limited abilities. If you have not in the past you can change the air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter, and clean the fuel and intake systems. Also make sure that you change your oil regularly and make sure that your tires are inflated to the correct pressure listed on teh sticker on the drivers door well. Also, cars do not live up to the specified fuel standards that car companies claim. Up until model year 2007 the fuel economy was derived using out of date techniques. In 2008 the way they calculate this was completely changed. Go to this website for the old and new numbers according to it the ratings dropped about 5%.

A. It's mechanical not a gecko, it won't just roll over and die one day. any mechanical item will last for many many miles with proper preventative maintenance. the real question is how well has it been maintained up till now. If there are no service records then be wary. if the owner is religious about maintenance and has the records to back it, I would say a good car will go 180K plus. I have an escort bought new and maintained well, it has 160K on it and all it needs right now is a little freon in the A/C otherwise it looks and runs great.

How many miles will a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer give me?
Q. I have limited funds, and I saw a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer for $5000 with 102K miles. I need a large car for me and my kids, it would mostly be used for local driving with a once in awhile long trips. I need to know if I can at least get 20k out of it before I really need to put more work in it. Please help!
Asked by Angie - Sat Apr 25 19:27:12 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. the main components of an engine (block and drive train) can go 200k miles no sweat. but that assumes that the car is well maintained over it's lifetime. many other things may go wrong, though. and it's usually around 100k miles that they do. fuel systems, cooling systems, valve systems, gaskets, and any of the billion or so parts in a car seem to start going south right around 100k. i'm not saying this car is bad but i'd do as much research as possible. find car histories, maintenance and repair records, anything you can about the car before you buy it.

What is wrong with the high beam lights of my toyota 4runner 2002?
Q. I have a Toyota 4Runner 2002 3.0TurboDiesel, and I have a problem with the headlights, the low beam head light works perfect, and the high beam head light works only when I pull the head light switch towards me (for a quick change of lights), but it does not work when I push the light switch forward (for a permanent change to high beam). The dealer tells me I have to change the turn signal/head light switch in the steering wheel, but they also say I have to change some control unit integrated circuits. They don't seem to be sure what the problem is, so before buying some expensive integrated circuits, I wanted to hear some suggestions on how to troubleshoot the problem and/or confirm the dealer diagnostics.
