A. Go to a part department of any Mitsubishi dealer with your VIN,they can look up in their computer to give you the code which you will need to enter on the stereo keypad.

What is the fastest engine for my 2001 cavalier?
Q. I already have 120,000 miles on my 2001 cavalier and am trying to find the fastest & inexpensive engine to buy for my cavalier once it brakes down on me. I would just sell it off but have already put too much money into the looks of it and don't want to lose out. I have heard the ecotech engines are good but don't have pricing. Also, going to add a turbo charger or supercharger which ever is better for the new engine.

A. You don't say which engine you have, but I assume that you do not have the V6. The Quad 4 engine came in that car and is an excellent candidate for making a relatively quick car. The 5 speed is an excellent transmission as is the differential. All are reasonably stout pieces of equipment. When GM built them in the W41 Cutlass of the early 90's. they were excellent performers, producing an advertised 190 hp. Since I know you have Yahoo, please check with Quadfourm in Yahoo groups. There is a wealth of information there including a fellow with a turbocharger who is quite successful at the drags. There are lots of parts still available and this place should be able to steer you in the right direction. If you choose either the… [cont.]

Q. I have a 2001 Ford Escape. For some reason while driving at high speed, the Side of my EGR Valve is blown out. Before that I had problems with misfire, I replaced two spark plug solenoids and the six plenum gaskets. After that the car was running weaken (without power). I replace the EGR valve, but the problems continue. I found that the tube going from the exhaust manifold to the EGR was extremely hot. What is happening?

What type of oil do you use for a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage?
Q. I just bought a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage, the owners manual wasn't with it, was hoping someone knew what type of oil to use. My guess is 10W-30 But I want to make sure its the right oil for the car.

A. According to the Mobil website your car calls for 5w-30. If you live in an area where the temperature drops below 0 Fahrenheit this is the the viscosity to use. Reason being: 80% of all engine wear occurs during the first few seconds the car is started. It's imparitive the oil in the crankcase is pumped to critical engine parts quickly. Higher viscosity motor oil actually makes the oil pump work harder throughout the rpm range. This costs efficienty and horsepower. Lighter viscosity oil "adsorbs" heat inside your motor more efficiently keeping internal parts cooler, and helps give you better gas mileage. The correct viscosity will allow the starter to crank the engine easier in cold weather, particularly if your car is parked outdoors. Don't [cont.]

Q. I have a 2001 Chevy Blazer. Every time I pour coolant in there it comes right back out. A car shop told me that I needed to change the intake gasket which is a $60 kit, plus $240 with labor. I think that I can save a lot if I just did it myself. I'm going to give it a try. Is it very hard to do?

How long do 2001 Audi A4's run before they start having problems?
Q. Just bought a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T with 104xxx miles. I plan to do all the required regular maintance. I've heard these cars run long if well maintained? I'm just asking becuase I plan to mod the car, but only will if I'm sure the engine can take it.
Asked by MoMo RC - Mon Aug 3 21:25:58 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A modded car will have to be maintained more meticulously so be aware. I have seen very well maintained stock 1.8t's make it well into the high 100k miles. I have seen very poorly maintained 1.8t's die before they make it out of warranty. In your case, be sure to only use synthetic engine oil and if the timing belt hasn't been done within the last 5 years or so, do it now. Be aware of sludge issues with this engine too. Check the underside fo the oil cap for sludge residue. If there is any, you may want to look into a flush and stuff. Audi dealers have a procedure that involves replacing several lines and using factory cleaning equipment to resolve most of these issues. Its not going to be cheap. I would stay away from any over the counter… [cont.]

What would cause the passenger power sliding door on my 2001 ford windstar limited to stop working?
Q. We have a 2001 Ford Windstar limited. The power sliding door on the passengers side stopped working by key fob, button, and power assist when opening with the handle. This is only a problem with the door on one side. It will open a little everynow and then when using the buttons up front or the buttons for the passenger. It gets about 6 inches open and stops. It also doesn't even sound like it's trying. Any thoughts?
Asked by corruptkerm - Mon Feb 11 19:24:52 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Sounds like either the power motor is bad/going bad, or possibly has a short in the door motor's harness... Not really a big deal, get it looked at... won't be too expensive.

How much is a 2001 Fender Strat worth?
Q. I'm planning on selling my dark purple 2001 Mexican made Stratocaster. I was just wondering what a good selling price would be. I bought it for $350.00

A. I'm not sure about the resale value of guitars, but as a general rule you'd have to take about 50% of the price off if it's second hand and in good condition. I saw an advert in my campus classifieds for a second-hand Strat (not sure what year) plus Marshall amp and effects pedal for R2000 (about $300).

How do you release the tension on the serptenie belt on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix?
Q. How do you release the tension on the serptenie belt on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix to replace the belt? I see the idler arm which has a capped opening but no nut behind it to move the arm, if indeed that is what moves?
Asked by twshadow - Wed Sep 19 12:35:32 2007 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments
A. What you will see is there will be a round aluminum part that will be connected to the back side of one of the idler wheels. Look at all the idler's...probably only two of them, that are smooth. The aluminum colored part will have a square that a 3/8 drive ratchet will fit into. If it does not have this...then you will see aluminum just attached to the back of the idler, that extends out. In this case, just get ( I believe a 15mm socket) and I believe you go counter clockwise...it will be spring loaded. On alot of these cars you have to use what is called a crows foot socket, because there is not enough space between that nut and the unibody. In that case, if you can get a wrench on that nut, you may be able to do it with that...altho [cont.]

If it's the hazy look go to an auto parts place and buy a headlight restoration kit and follow the instructions. If it's moisture run your car with the high beams on while its day time and this will dry them out remember to turn off your high beams. If the problem reoccurs drill a 1/8 inch hole in the lowest corner and repeat

What is the best way to repair/replace a ripped seat on a 2001 jeep wrangler sport?
Q. I own a 2001 jeep wrangler sport (stock) and the front drivers side seat has a 2 inch tear located on the side. The seats are black with random triangles and lines. I would like to stay away from seat covers. Can you replace just the factory bottom seat cloth? What is the best and cheapest fix?
Asked by Weston H - Wed May 14 21:05:58 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Possibly the cheapest would probably be an upholstery shop. They'll use aftermarket cloth to make a new cover. Second would be to order the cloth from Jeep. If memory serves, yes, you can just replace the bottom seat cloth. Go to your local dealers parts department and they'll be able to find out what you need. You'll need a set of bull ring pliers and some bull rings. Look on ebay for a package deal. Reupholstering a cloth seat is really not that difficult after you understand how it's done and get a hang of using the bullring pliers.

A. the 2001 Civic LX did not come with the factory keyless entry as standard equipment. It was available as a dealer installed accessory. The easiest way to tell if you have it, provided the original owner didn't lose it is to see if you have a remote transmitter. If you have an oval shaped black key fob with lock and unlock buttons that says "honda" on it, you have keyless. If you don't have the fob it may have been lost but the overwhelming odds are that you don't have keyless entry on it. What type of oil does a 2001 sebring take?
Q. I just purchased a 2001 sebring, but the seller no longer had the owner's manual. I just need to know if any of you own one and call tell me what type of motor oil is required. A. Considering the year of the car and the fact that it don't say on the filler cap, I would say it takes 5w30 oil. It doesn't matter what brand as long as it has the API seal for automotive use. Ask the guy at the counter of advance auto to look up how much it takes and see if he confirms this. You will need to know the engine size though. this will be located on a sticker under the hood.

Need cylinder heads and gaskets replaced on 2001 Buick Centry. Anyone know where I can find a cheap motor?
Q. I am being told it will cost $3,000.00 to replace the cylinder heads and gaskets on my 2001 Buick Centry. They are not willing to work with me for montly payments and I don't have the cash. I don't know what to do. I'm a single Mom and this is my sole transportation. Any suggestions?

How much should I expect to pay to get the exhaust system of a 2001 Mazda Protege replaced?
Q. I've been told I need to get the exhaust system of my 2001 Mazda Protege. How should I expect to pay to get this done? Do I need to get Mazda parts? I don't think it is the muffler that needs replaced. I believe it is the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. The parts the mechanic showed me were more towards the front of the car.

A. no you don't need Mazda parts you can use the cheaper alternative like napa auto zone it price of the job depends on the time and how hard it is for the old one to come apart and how easy the new one will be to install
