Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Wiktionary is a wiki, which means that you can edit it, and all the content is dual-licensed under both the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License as well as the GNU Free Documentation License. Before you contribute, you may wish to read through some of our Help pages, and bear in mind that we do things quite differently from other wikis. Animal science is described as "studying the biology of animals that are under the control of mankind". Historically, the animals studied were farm animals, but courses available now look at a far broader area to include companion animals, for example dogs, cats, horses and captive animals. At the University of Reading, for example, the study of animal science is concerned with the scientific understanding of how animals work: from the physiology and biochemistry of tissues and major organ systems down to the structure and function of biomolecules and cells; particular emphasis is given to the study of growth, reproduction, nutrition and lactation of farm and companion animals and how these processes may be optimised to improve animal productivity, health and welfare. Courses in support areas, such as genetics, soils, agricultural economics and marketing, legal aspects and the environment also are offered. Degrees in Animal Science are offered at a number of Universities. Related linksFrom Wikipedia under the
